Accountability isn’t micromanagement - it’s the key to growth
It's been three years, but the blog is BACK!
Another way to look at your goals
On the 1st of July 2021 I sat down with my Expectations page of my Time Journal to map out my goals for the next 90 days. It was only when I got to the end of the list of 10 goals, that I realised that not one of them was related to work…
Theory vs. Practical
The thing is, I get the sentiment, truly I do. When bosses and business owners hear stats like the one Indeed released recently, indicating that over 50% of the US workforce have experienced burnout at work in the past year, then no wonder they scrabble together to fling a couple of ‘wellbeing’ booths onto their factory floors (or the equivalent.)
I hate to break it to Bezos like this, but a booth isn’t gonna cut it…
Drive over Ambition. Always.
Although it seems that drive and ambition are the same thing at face value, I would actually suggest that they are two very different concepts, and that one is much greater and more important than the other.
Is ‘work life balance’ a thing?
Before we head back to regular weekly messages from next week, I’d like to close out this final instalment of our ‘behind the quote’ series, with something that is actually more of a saying than a quote, because here’s the thing...
There’s no such thing as ‘work-life balance’…
“Hope for the best, expect the worst…”
I’m gonna go ahead and say the Prime Minister was wrong on this one…
“If 2020 didn’t bring the hustle out of you…”
I’m sure, like me, you’ve seen that quote (in the title) before. Perhaps also like me, you’ve actually been inspired and motivated by it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still pretty motivated by it for the most part, but in this first of my ‘behind the quote’ series, I want us to understand that this quote isn’t actually true. Well, not really. Your response to that may either inspire you, or allow to realise you’re doing better than you think…
“You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyonce.”

E: Expectant
We’re pretty familiar, I think, with the idea of ‘starting with the end in mind’ as a concept, but how often do these theories make the cut when it comes to our reality?
How much of our days are spent in reaction mode? ‘Make lunch as I’m hungry now, send the email because someone needs my response now’, as opposed to small steps towards a goal we’ve already mapped out? Even more than this - have we spent so much time in reaction mode, that we’ve not even thought about the goals we want to achieve…
I: Intention
Have you ever kicked off your year with a word? You know the drill - you choose a word which suggests what you’d like the theme of your year to be marked by.
In 2019, my word was ‘intentional’.
I also started 2019 about 5 months pregnant…
T: Thankful
It’s no secret that gratitude is a powerful tool which we all possess to some degree. It’s also like a muscle we have to train if we want to reap it’s benefits.
